CITY OF BRENHAM RESIDENTS ASKED TO NOT FLUSH WIPES, PAPER TOWELS
The City of Brenham is urging residents to not flush disinfecting wipes or paper towels.
City officials say due to COVID-19 worries, there is a shortage of toilet paper on store shelves. This can cause people to use alternative products such as paper towels, facial tissues, baby wipes, flushable wipes, and other similar items.
These products, including the flushable wipes, do not break down in the sanitary sewer system like toilet paper, which can cause sewer backups, sewer pump failures, and treatment issues.
Communication and Public Relations Manager Melinda Gordon says as products fly off store shelves in response to the coronavirus pandemic, people need to be vigilant in not flushing them down the toilet and causing severe disruption for wastewater infrastructure and treatment.
