FAYETTE CO. TO CLOSE HOTELS, MOTELS, B&BS EFFECTIVE TUESDAY

Following a sharp increase in COVID-19 cases over the weekend, Fayette County is taking steps to prevent transmission of COVID-19 by travel.

Monday, Fayette County Judge Joe Weber announced that all hotels, motels, B&Bs, and Air B&Bs in the county will be closed.  Exceptions will be made for occupants who live at those facilities on a permanent basis and personnel who are quartered there on a temporary basis while providing essential services in the county.

Weber said in his announcement he will not let travelers, some of whom are in violation of stay-at-home directives within their own jurisdictions, “jeopardize the health and safety of our residents by exposing them to unnecessary and/or willful contact”.

Currently there are 16 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Fayette County.  There were 11 cases in the county through Friday after one case was confirmed Friday, and six were confirmed Thursday.  There are two reported recoveries.

Weber’s order goes into effect at noon today (Tuesday), and will remain in effect indefinitely.  He cautioned that no order by itself will slow the spread of the virus within the county and its communities, saying success in this effort depends on residents taking personal responsibility and doing exactly what has been recommended and directed by health experts and leaders.
