BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD PASSES PAYMENT RESOLUTION

The Brenham School Board held their third virtual audio only meeting at noon today (Monday).  The board voted to approve a revision to the district policy regarding compensation and benefits during an emergency.  The original policy was designed for and emergency lasting only a few days, such as a Hurricane.  Director of Business & Finance Kim Weatherby reads part of the amendment to the board:

What the amendment effectively does is end emergency closure pay on March 16th for professional employees and April 2nd for hourly employees.  It further states that even though the campuses are closed, students are still receiving an education and employees will receive their normal pay. The resolution also notes that the last day of instruction remains May 21st, but that the situation is fluid, and that date may change.

In his statement to the board, Superintendent Dr. Walter Jackson said that the district hopes to resume meal services to students in some form next week.  The drive through lunch and breakfast service was suspended last Tuesday after a staff member thought they might have covid-19.  On Thursday, it was learned that the staff member did not have the virus.   Dr. Jackson said he is grateful for the local business that have stepped in to serve meals to the children in the interim.
