WASHINGTON CO. OFFICIALS REPORTING 37 COVID-19 CASES; FIVE HOSPITALIZED, TWO DEATHS

Washington County reported six new cases of COVID-19 and a second death over Easter weekend, bringing the total number of cases to 37 and the active cases to 32.

Five cases were reported on Friday, one in a Burton woman in her 60s; and one woman in her 50s, two in their 60s, and one in her 90s, all from Brenham.  An additional case was reported on Saturday in a Brenham man in his 60s.

Friday, the county announced a second COVID-19 patient, a Brenham woman in her 90s with multiple underlying conditions, passed away Friday afternoon.

Meanwhile, officials with the Brenham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center have confirmed at least five of its patients have tested positive for COVID-19.  Center officials say their efforts to manage the development include following the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on restricting visitation to essential health care personnel only, along with other CDC guidelines.  They are also continuing to encourage phone and virtual visitation through FaceTime and Google Hangouts.

Of the 32 active cases, five patients are hospitalized.  Three patients have recovered from the virus.  All cases are believed to have been transmitted through community spread.

  1. As word travels here its evident many surrounding churches conducted Easter Sunday services, meal followed, egg hunt. I doubt since they had Sunday service that these same people have been complying with Governor Abbott request to halt services. Obvious they did not listen to Good Friday WH briefing when Surgeon General Jerome Adams clearly said “please adhere to the State mandates & do not gather for Easter Sunday.” Because these are outlying county churches did they not realize when passerbys drove by they’d see cars around church & fellowship halls for meal to follow knowing services were going on. And yes these are the people that mingle in our stores…use no protection. The heart breaker here is nursing home residents cannot have Bible Study, church services & gather with family & friends for Easter or any week. This is a detrament to their health….this is their weekly daily life & deprived of it. But here we have churches doing as they please. The Judge & Sheriff dept.need to keep watchful eye the following weekends. Ask around & am sure word will be out on whose conducting services. If you did not hear Good Friday WH briefing go to You Tube WH brief 4/10/20 to hear what Surgeon General Adams had to say. Hes the 20th Surgeon General in US History & a brillant person. If these people didn’t listen to him on Friday maybe they will listen & follow his suggestions from this day on. If this continues we will be in this situation for a long time & that’s a very unpleasant feeling. I want my life back to normal.

    1. You can have your life back now, you can fellowship now. That’s what these Churches are saying.

Life has plenty of risks, plenty of risks that are not of our choosing that are just as high as COVID yet we carry on. We are well past the risk posed by COVID into much higher risk of losing what people have worked their entire life for. What generations have sacrificed for.

The world can have this fear if they want it. The US has never been anything like the rest of the world. We have been its savior and we have been its doom, depending on your point of view. We are unique, in all the world, in all of time.

But I am finished with it, with the fear. I will live life as as I see fit, as best I can manage by God. Not how the fear mongering elite media wants me too or the latest supreme expert. To those that say I am causing unnecessary risk. Get a life, what ever it is you have left of one. COVID or something like COVID or worse will get you in the end regardless of how much time is spent hiding. Then you will face judgement.

For all we know, most people already test positive for COVID antibodies but I’m not waiting around for some test that comes out a month or a year from now.

My sympathy to the families that have the virus. God Bless you.I agree with the RN. Please people wear your mask. Follow the CDC recommendations. We do know it is spread through droplets which could happen when having a conversation. Think about it you could be taking this illness home to your family members when you don’t protect yourself when out in the public. Please wear a mask. Thank you.

  3. Condolences to the families. This is a hard time to be losing a loved one with all the social distancing. Sure wish all staff at HEB and Walmart were wearing masks. Now that we know it can be spread through normal conversation and breathing out, we need everyone who has to be working or going out for essentials, (food, medicine) to wear a mask.
