WASHINGTON CO. COVID-19 RESPONSE FUND TAKING APPLICATIONS, DONATIONS

Nearly 30 applications have been received by administrators of the Washington County COVID-19 Response Fund, along with thousands of dollars in donations.

As of Wednesday, the fund has received approximately $15,000 in donations.  It will begin disbursements to qualifying businesses early next week.

Brenham Economic Development Director Susan Cates said the 100 percent donation-driven fund was established to provide grants to the county’s most at-risk small businesses, those with fewer than 20 full-time employees.

Susan Cantey, Brenham City Councilmember, said as a former small business owner herself, she has great empathy for entrepreneurs who are experiencing troubles during this time.

The fund was created under the City of Brenham Community Projects Fund, Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization, and is managed and administered by a fund oversight committee made up of Cantey, Leon Toubin, and John Barnhill.

Of the roughly 30 applicants, over $200,000 has been requested.  Qualifying small businesses may be granted anywhere from $500 to $3,000.

Community members who are interested in donating to the tax-deductible fund can learn more by visiting www.brenhamed.com/covidresponsefund.

Brenham Economic Development recently released the results of a survey that ran from April 7th to April 17th, which asked nearly 200 separate businesses how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted them.  The summary report of the survey is available here.
