TWO NEW MEMBERS, FORMER ALDERMAN WIN ELECTION TO BELLVILLE CITY COUNCIL

The Bellville City Council will have two new faces, as well as one familiar face, moving forward.

Following Saturday’s election, the council will seat two new members: Ashley Slater and Garrett Dornon.  The council is also welcoming back former city alderman Wayne Browning, who previously served on the council from 1996 through 2018.

Saturday’s unofficial election results show Browning defeated fellow challenger and local attorney Paul Looney by a total of 243 votes to 201.  Browning will take the Alderman Position One seat currently held by Alderwoman Cassie Janish, who did not seek re-election.

For Alderman Position Three, challenger Ashley Slater, event director for the Bellville Small Town Christmas celebration and past officer for O’Bryant Primary School’s PTO, defeated incumbent Donna Jacob with 274 votes to Jacob’s 176.

Meanwhile, Garrett Dornon, current president of the Bellville Economic Development Corporation, received 379 votes in his uncontested bid for Alderman Position Five.  He was the only candidate who filed for the position currently held by longtime alderman and Mayor Pro Tem Doug Lottridge, who also did not run for re-election.

Canvassing of the election results is planned for May 12th.
