DURRENBERGER, TATE DISCUSS FACILITY OPENINGS IN VIDEO UPDATE

Washington County and the City of Brenham are beginning to reopen public facilities for more widespread use.

Washington County Judge John Durrenberger (left) and Brenham Mayor Milton Tate discuss the reopening of county and city facilities in a COVID-19 update video.

In a video update to the community released this (Friday) morning, Washington County Judge John Durrenberger and Brenham Mayor Milton Tate talked about the path being taken by county and city officials to reopen facilities and offices as the state continues its own reopening initiative.

Durrenberger said, starting Monday, county offices that have been closed to the public for the last eight weeks will “slowly and cautiously” start to open.  The courthouse will only be accessible via the west entrance on Park Street, where visitors will be screened before entry.

Durrenberger stated that visitors will be required to wear a mask, and will not be allowed into the courthouse or a county office without one.  He also asked for those who are admitted to not bring people with them that are not essential to their business there.

Durrenberger said the COVID-19 test results from the drive-thru test collections held Sunday and Thursday at the Washington County Fairgrounds are not in yet, but they are expected soon.  He said the county will have to wait and see if there are any future opportunities to hold drive-thru testing.

Tate said the city is trying to get most of its operations back to normal, and reviewed the previously announced list of facilities that are open and those that will reopen within the coming weeks.  He said he hopes the city will have a wider opening concept in the future, but will have to go in stages for now.

Tate reminded the public to continue abiding by health standards set by local, state, and federal health officials.

Another video update will be released next week, featuring Washington County Health Authority Dr. William Loesch.

  1. If you are allowing your children to walk through the toy aisles at Walmart during these dangerous times, then shame on you!!! This sort of irresponsible attitude is the very reason that the public officials must make these restrictions. This virus is not going to go away by wishful thinking.
The public policies being enforced now are to insure the safety of our children, not take away their rights.

  2. Thank you for opening nothing. Explain how children can walk through rows of toys at Walmart but not rows of books at the library? Why can they swim in public pools but not swing on public swings? Why is this county so anti-children? How is this an update on anything? This is old news. So basically nothing is open and nothing is changing. This is not a slow reopening. Just because they are deciding to grace us with their presence at their place of business does not mean the city is opening. Is this supposed to make us feel like they are doing something? Maybe they should open the parks and library and focus on the nursing home problem where people are dying and not on the healthy people who want to move on with their lives. Oh wait, they didn’t even notify anyone until after everyone was dead. Thank God the Senator stepped in. They open the visitors center? The people going there do not live here. So how is that helpful. “Welcome to Brenham where we continue to suppress the rights of the residents here. This is a pamphlet on everything city and county officials refuse to open and here is your complimentary mask you can wear while you visiting the lovely closed sites.” These men are not leaders they want everyone to continue living in fear.

    1. Completely agree ! It is old seniors running these decisions and this town that really don’t care.

Just letting everyone know they are above us!
