A Friday afternoon traffic stop in Fayette County led authorities to discover roughly 8 pounds of heroin in the vehicle’s exhaust tunnel.

Shortly before 1:15 p.m. Fayette County Narcotics Unit Sergeant Randy Thumann and K9 partner Kolt stopped a Chevy 1500 pickup on I-10 at the 659 mile-marker for a traffic violation.  After speaking with the driver and receiving consent to search the vehicle, Sgt. After Kolt alerted to the presence of illegal narcotics, Sgt. Thumann, along with Fayette County Investigator David Smith, found approximately 8 pounds of heroin concealed in what Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek calls “an elaborate aftermarket compartment built into the vehicle exhaust tunnel”.  The narcotics have an estimated street value of $1,095,000.

The driver, 40-year-old Bobby Cavazos of Weslaco, was arrested for felony Heroin Possession and taken to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center.  He has been released from jail after posting $75,000 bond.

  1. Where do you think he gets his bail money from? These traffic drug runners take care of their own. You won’t see him again!! Bond for a smuggler needs to be a lot higher.

      1. How sad the folks that live in Fayette County have had to deal w/Drug trafficking for many years now. A Bond if allowed should be MULTIPLE Times the value of what is confiscated. Not sure who the District Judge is in that County but I hope its Judge Reva Townslee…..yes to the above Comments the drug Lords take care $$$$ wise of their Runners. Feel for the good folks in Fayette County.
