GOV. ABBOTT ANNOUNCES INCREASED CAPACITY LIMIT UNDER THIRD PHASE OF REOPENING PLAN

Governor Greg Abbott has further lifted some of the COVID-19 restrictions in place as the state continues its efforts to reopen the economy.

Governor Greg Abbott

Wednesday, Abbott announced the third phase of the state’s reopening plan, which immediately allows nearly all businesses in Texas to operate at 50 percent of their maximum capacity.  All businesses currently operating at 25 percent capacity, including bars, gyms, and similar establishments, can open up to 50 percent with limited exceptions.  Businesses previously allowed to operate at 100 percent capacity may continue to do so, and most outdoor areas are not subject to capacity limits.

In addition, video game facilities are allowed to open up to 50 percent capacity, as are amusement parks and carnivals in counties with less than 1,000 confirmed cases.  Restaurants can also expand their maximum table size from six to ten people.

Effective June 12th, restaurants can expand their occupancy levels to 75 percent, and counties with 10 or fewer active COVID-19 cases can expand their capacity limits to 75 percent.  Counties that fit this category but have not previously filed an attestation with the Texas Department of State Health Services will need to do so.

Starting June 19th, counties with more than 1,000 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 can open up amusement parks and carnivals to 50 percent capacity.

The governor’s office said special provisions have been made for outdoor gatherings, such as Fourth of July celebrations, but said it is “imperative” that local officials and public health officials collaborate on safe standards.

Abbott said all businesses and customers should continue to follow minimum standard health protocols laid out by DSHS.
