At Thursday’s meeting of the Brenham City Council, Officer Eddie Martinez received the Life Saving Award in recognition of his valor and his efforts that saved the life of a young woman earlier this year.

Captain Lloyd Powell, who presented the award, said on April 3rd, Martinez responded to the 2300 block of Austin Street, where he found a woman who was unconscious and not breathing.  After performing CPR, he was able to get her to breathe on her own, even though she was still unconscious, until EMS arrived.

Captain Powell said the situation would have taken a turn for the worse had it not been for Martinez’ intervention.

Martinez thanked everyone for the recognition, along with his fellow officers and partner on his shift for helping give him the courage to do what he did.

Brenham Mayor Milton Tate said he was proud of Martinez, adding he is glad Martinez is on the Brenham police force.  Police Chief Ron Parker said with public service, the opportunity exists to make a positive difference in people’s lives, and Martinez showed that with his actions.  He said this is something that “will be remembered for eternity”.

City Manager James Fisher said Martinez is an example of “the caliber of people” the city has in its police department.  He said the ugly side of society has shown itself over the last couple of weeks, often hiding the good things that police officers do.  He thanked the Brenham Police Department and its officers for their service and for “making a difference in this community”.  He said the city has their backs, and will always be there for them.

  1. I use to be a thug causing chaos and I hated cops especially the ones in Brenham. I changed my life a few years back and I still had problems with bpd until I told them look I change my ways, and the officer that always pulled me over is the one who saw that I really changed my life. He was like never tot you would change. We hug I prayed for them and now I see the cops and we just wave at each other. Honestly is me that brought that into my life not the cops. So thank you officers for understanding me and believing a person like me can change. Thank you Jesus
    May god protect them all.

  2. Congratulations, Eddie Martinez! Thank you for being at the right place at the right time to save a life. I know that’s your job… put too often great things go unnoticed! Way to go Brenham PD! Continue making the difference in our wonderful “small town” community!

  3. We need to see more news as this in these trying times. Right now the Police are getting a bad rap and this article shows the other side. I thank all officers city and county for all their hard work and dedication to Washington County. Keep doing the great job and don’t listen to the few who are bitter about something they have no control of. I pray for your safety.

  4. Good young man ….makes me confident in the younger generation despite what we see on the news…if theres plenty like him we are going to be oookkkaaaayy
