LOCAL LEADERS EXPRESS OPTIMISM ABOUT STATE OF COVID-19 IN WASHINGTON CO.
Brenham and Washington County officials say the road to COVID-19 recovery looks clearer than ever.

Washington County Health Authority Dr. William Loesch, Washington County Judge John Durrenberger, and Brenham Mayor Milton Tate all spoke in a video update released this (Friday) morning by the Washington County Joint Information Center. In the video, the three shared an optimistic outlook for the community, citing increased numbers in recovered cases and a greater sense of normalcy returning to people’s lives.
Dr. Loesch said metrics are improving, showcasing decreased death counts and projections statewide. He said, while the pandemic is not over, current trends indicate that life should be more akin to what people would consider “normal” later this summer.
Durrenberger said things are looking up as the county moves into its fourth month of COVID-19 tracking, with the county’s active cases decreasing even as businesses and facilities open back up. He said residents are to be commended for the work they’ve done to stop the spread of the virus.
Brenham Mayor Milton Tate gave a rundown of the city’s plans for summer programs and facility openings, some of which were discussed at Thursday’s Brenham City Council meeting. Tate encouraged the public to support local businesses as they continue to reopen.
