BRENHAM ISD EXTENDS WEEKLY BOXED MEALS FOR SUMMER FEEDING PROGRAM
Brenham ISD has announced the extension of the district’s weekly boxed meal distribution as part of its Summer Food Service Program.
Distribution will continue each Wednesday at Brenham High School from 11 a.m. to noon through Wednesday, July 29th.
Each child present in the vehicle between the ages of 1 and 18 will receive one food box containing five breakfasts and five lunches worth of shelf-stable food. Communications Director Jessica Johnston said the child nutrition department will “continue to provide as many boxes as needed” to serve families.
Food boxes will be placed in the trunk of the vehicle to maintain contact-less delivery.
The district previously provided a daily meal distribution program, but switched to a weekly format after concerns arose in April that a district employee had been exposed to COVID-19. However, it was later determined that the employee was not exposed.
Johnston said the child nutrition department served over 57,000 breakfasts and lunches from March 16th to May 20th, prior to the end of the school year. The district served 3,130 meals on May 27th and 1,860 meals on June 3rd.
