ROUND TOP TO CELEBRATE SESQUICENTENNIAL AUGUST 1ST ON TOWN SQUARE

The smallest incorporated town in Texas is celebrating a big anniversary later this summer.

Following the endorsement of the Round Top Town Council, the Round Top Sesquicentennial Committee has officially announced its plans for a 150th Anniversary Celebration on the town square August 1st.

The all-day event, beginning at 10 a.m. with the firing of a cannon, will look to honor the heritage and founding of Round Top with community spirit, historical presentations, live music, local food, and family-friendly recreation.

There will also be historical home tours and presentations, live music on the town square and in the Festival Hill Concert Hall, and the first-ever Two County Barbecue Showdown, which will pit the best local barbecue teams from Fayette and Washington Counties against one another.  Ticket holders will be able to taste and judge all entries.

In addition, a historical folio entitled “Round Top – Next Stop!” will be presented at the event.  The 48-page booklet, which is being compiled and written by author and Round Top resident Sally Reynolds, will highlight Round Top’s history and a collection of personal memories shared by local residents.
