31ST ANNUAL BURTON COTTON GIN FESTIVAL SATURDAY
The nation’s oldest operating cotton gin will come alive today (Saturday) at the 31st Annual Burton Cotton Gin Festival.
The full day of events kicks off at 10 a.m. with the Main Street Parade through downtown Burton. After that, festivalgoers can look forward to activities such as folk-life demonstrations, the display of old farming equipment, a classic car show, live music, food and craft vendors, and the always-entertaining bubblegum blowing, pie eating, and cotton seed pulling contests. Admission to the festival is free.
Today’s events also include tours of the historic gin, although they will look different from previous years due to COVID-19 restrictions. The tours will not go inside the gin itself, but festival organizers intend to livestream videos of the gin running on YouTube and Facebook.
The gift shop will have an occupancy limit, and hand washing and sanitizing stations will be placed around the festival grounds. There will also be water stations available to help keep attendees cool in the summer heat.
