OVER $100,000 DONATED TO LOCAL SMALL BUSINESSES THROUGH WASHINGTON CO. COVID-19 RESPONSE FUND

The Washington County COVID-19 Response Fund recently hit a milestone in financial relief given to local small businesses.

Brenham Economic Development Director Susan Cates said the relief fund has allocated $100,000 to 49 separate small businesses, while receiving about $105,000 in donations.

There are still additional funding requests from businesses that cannot be funded at this time, but Cates said the response fund will allocate everything received from donors to small businesses.  She said she will continue to work with the fund oversight committee, made of up Susan Cantey, Leon Toubin, and John Barnhill on current and future funding requests.

Cates said there have been some businesses that applied for local aid, but then withdrew their applications after receiving federal assistance in order to let other businesses receive the local funding.  She said the fund is still open and accepting donations, because there are still needs in the community.

Cates said businesses are still struggling and they need support, whether it be through donations, shopping locally, or even sharing their social media posts and offering words of encouragement.

Cates said the response from businesses that have received local funding has been one of extreme gratitude.

Small businesses that qualify for assistance through the response fund may be granted anywhere from $500 to $3,000.  To apply for aid, or to donate to the tax-deductible fund, go online to www.brenhamed.com/covidresponsefund.
