MALPRACTICE INSURANCE FOR JAIL MED. DIRECTOR TO BE DISCUSSED TUESDAY

Washington County Commissioners are expected to vote on a revision to the county’s jail medical director malpractice insurance.

County Commissioners meet Tuesday morning at 9:00 at the Courthouse Annex.

Back in April, the commissioners approved allowing County Judge John Durrenberger and the county attorney’s office to renegotiate and rewrite the contract with Dr. Stuart Yoffe, to allow the county to obtain medical malpractice insurance.  This would protect the county in case it is named in a civil lawsuit accompanying any malpractice suit against Dr. Yoffe.

The decision was made after Durrenberger explained that Dr. Yoffe, who is not a county employee, is self-insuring himself for $1 million against malpractice claims.

Commissioner Kirk Hanath said having this separate insurance will protect not just the county, but its taxpayers.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting:

Approval for the purchase of a water heater for the Washington County Jail.

Approval for requests for bids for commissary and banking software for the County Jail.

Approve selling surplus county property thru GuvDeals.com.

And receive monthly reports from: Emergency Management Coordinator; Environmental Health; Tax Assessor/Collector; Auditor; Fairgrounds Management and other departments.
