GOV. ABBOTT PUTS HOLD ON REOPEN TEXAS PLAN

Texas will temporarily halt future reopening phases as the state continues to see an increase in positive COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations.

Gov. Greg Abbott

Governor Greg Abbott announced the pause this (Thursday) morning, saying businesses that were allowed to reopen under previous phases can still operate at current occupancy levels.  They will still need to maintain the minimum standard health protocols set by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).

Abbott said in a release that the state is focused on strategies that slow the spread of the virus while continuing to allow Texans to earn paychecks to support their families.  He said this temporary pause will help the state contain the spread until it can safely enter the next phase of reopening.  He added “the last thing we want to do as a state is go backwards and close down businesses”.

Abbott once again called upon Texans to do their part in stopping the spread by asking them to wear masks, regularly wash their hands, and socially distance from others.  He said the more that people follow these guidelines, the safer the state will be, and the more it can reopen for business.

  1. The protests are over. Two more weeks and the count will go back down. It’s got nothing to do with reopening.

    1. True but remember we had Holidays & celebrations. ..3 day events w/bbqs, park gathering last weekend. Give it another WEEK & we will have a outbreak . Kids & adults by the droves in supermarkets w/no mask ALL LAST WEEKEND….not following protocol to keep distance while waiting in line, reaching over another. The ONLY way that will be enforced is if HEB has a staff member standing by & remind people….how sad that ppl here don’t understand the RULES after All these MONTHS. Most of these ppl live here…..so they should know what their responsibility is. Don’t say this virus is not real….cause it is. Yes VIRUSES have to run the course & play out. Sure hope the ignorance stops & a vaccine can’t come soon enough but then u have those that avoid the FLU vaccine so what’s it gonna take to convince them to get this vaccine. Will they have to have

  2. Exactly.
    Moving forward, not backwards.
If it takes a few more weeks to open the next phase to help with the “hospital stay increases”, then that is fine.
Again, as I , and many others have said , positive cases do not mean increased hospitalizations or death.
Please, all others that comment, be strong, this is a virus that will run it’s course, like all viruses, even the one’s that are never in the and news.
    Be strong, have faith.

    1. Okay, J.D.,

It’s going to go away, just like all the others! Warm weather is here, not going away. Opening up everything, not going away.
People are still contracting the virus, hospitals are moving toward capacity, it’s not going away. Moving forward , it’s not going away. So, those that have been ill, may have long lasting illnesses, and those that have perished , but we’re moving forward. I’m thinking we are in a country, where denial is the thing that needs to, go away! Answers, I don’t have, but it’s not going away!

      Hope thing get better !

      1. It’s a combination of 1984 and Animal farm playing out before our eyes!! Sad, truly sad.

      2. It is sad to hear the fear in your words, I am sorry.
        It will go away.
Some will die, most will not. That is life.
Positive test results are just that.
They are not positive deaths, or even positive terrible side effects.
Has anyone heard of a majority of the cashiers at Walmart, Heb, Home Depot, or Lowes getting infected to the point of calling in sick in numbers that puts a strain on check out lines, or stocking at night???
        I have not.
Besides hospital workers, these folks are “essential workers/on the front line”.
They talk with and help many different people everyday, from all over, and so far, for the last 3 months, are still working and healthy.
        Take precautions that suit you.
If you are uncomfortable than stay home.
This will pass, things will get back to “normal”.
Try and not let the fear of the unknown control your life and those you have influence over.
This virus is contagious enough, and mild enough, that it will pass, with or without a vaccine.
Read more medical history and less main steam “end of the world news”.
You will be happier for it.
