EARLY VOTING FOR PRIMARY RUNOFFS BEGINS MONDAY

Early voting begins Monday for the Republican and Democratic Primary Runoffs.

Early voting will run Monday through Thursday at the Washington County Courthouse Annex, closing on Friday, July 3rd in observance of Independence Day.  Early voting will continue July 6-10, with Election Day July 14th.  Hours for early voting are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., while Election Day polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Washington County voters will have one race on the Republican ballot and four on the Democratic ballot.

On the Republican ballot, Terry Adams and James Lombardino are vying for Justice on the 1st Court of Appeals District, Place 5.

Meanwhile, on the Democratic ballot, Mary “MJ” Hegar and Royce West will compete for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senator, the winner of which will face Republican incumbent John Cornyn in November.

Mike Siegel and Pritesh Gandhi will face off for the Democratic nomination for Texas 10th Congressional District.  The winner will go up against Republican incumbent Michael McCaul in the fall.

Roberto “Beto” Alonzo and Chrysta Castañeda are running for Democratic nomination for the Texas Railroad Commission.

Finally, Cheri Thomas and Tamika “Tami” Craft are running for Justice on the 14th Court of Appeals District, Place 7.

County Clerk Beth Rothermel said plexiglass shields will be put between election workers and voters, and workers will have the availability of masks or face shields and gloves.  Each voter will be issued a pen that they will sign in with, vote with, and leave with.  Hand sanitizer will also be available.

Rothermel said social distancing will be adhered to while following election laws.  Voters are not required to wear face coverings, but are encouraged to by the Texas Secretary of State’s office.

Voters wishing to vote by mail that have not already submitted an application to the county clerk’s office must do so by Thursday, July 2nd.  After early voting begins Monday, all applications must be mailed in and received by July 2nd.  An application can still be “walked in” by voters this week.  According to Rothermel, the county clerk’s office has received 786 applications for ballots by mail so far—502 Democratic and 284 Republican.

For Election Day, both parties jointly decided to consolidate polling locations to four places:
