Friday, Bryan Mayor Andrew Nelson and Brazos County Judge Duane Peters signed emergency orders effective June 30th.

The orders come less than a day after the City of College Station passed similar restrictions, which go into effect Monday and continue through July 10th, requiring the use of face masks in all businesses.

The Bryan and Brazos County orders say individuals over the age of 10, whether they be employees, customers, visitors, invitees, or contractors, “shall use all reasonable efforts” to comply with the face covering and social distancing protocols of businesses.  They also say everyone over the age of 10 should keep up their efforts while in public places by practicing social distancing or wearing face coverings when this is not feasible.

Face masks will not be required when eating or drinking, driving alone or with passengers of the same household, operating outdoor equipment, or engaging in physical activity outside.  They will also not be required while in a building or activity that requires security surveillance or screening, such as a bank, or when doing so poses a greater mental or physical health, safety, or security risk.

At this time, no civil or criminal penalty will be imposed on individuals for failure to wear a face covering.  The orders also state no penalty will be imposed on businesses who do not comply, although they do state this is subject to change.
