Dees has led Giddings ISD for five years, and serves 1,900 students. He is a member of over a dozen professional organizations.
The award program honors outstanding administrators who show visionary leadership toward improving student performance. Superintendents are nominated by their local school boards for showing strong leadership skills, improving education quality in their districts, and commitment to public support and involvement in education.
In his nomination letter, the Giddings ISD Board of Trustees cited Dees’ “tireless efforts to improve the educational experiences and outcomes for students of the district”. ESC Region XIII Executive Director Dr. Rich Elsasser said Dees is “a prime example of the Superintendent our schools need to foster a culture of success and caring regardless of what role you hold in the district”.
There are 20 ESCs in Texas representing 1,053 school districts, with Region XIII serving 57 school districts across 17 central Texas counties. Each service center names a superintendent to represent their region for the statewide award program.
Regional winners will be interviewed August 28th and 29th, and five finalists will be chosen by the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) State Selection Committee to be interviewed in October. The committee will then select the winner with the presentation of the award on October 2nd at the 2020 Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA)/TASB Convention in Austin.
