BRENHAM ON A ‘SOLID FOUNDATION’ HEADING INTO 2021

City Manager James Fisher

The City of Brenham is planning for losses of about $1-million, as they prepare for the upcoming budget.

At a budget workshop earlier this week, city officials say they expect a budget of just over $66.4-million.

City Manager James Fisher says the city is on a solid foundation heading into the coming fiscal year, due to a diversified general fund revenue.  But he cautions, adjustments do need to be made due to the currant pandemic, including constant evaluation of the budget.

Fisher says that while the city is not expecting to lay off any employees right now, he and city staff are evaluating the number of employees in each department.  He says he believes the city does have too many employees, and plans to promote and hire employees internally rather than externally.

Fisher says he, Chief Financial Officer Carolyn Miller, said city council may need to meet again in the future if the Covid-19 situation worsens.

  1. Everyone !!!! The biggest concerns are

“How many $9.00 employees do we have to get rid of so we can vote, vote for an increase in our paychecks is what JAMES FISHER is thinking !!!!”

Never considering giving city employees raises that work for less than 15.00 buck an hour !!!

In the mean time, James Fisher why don’t you talk about how much you get paid ! Its close to that 200k a year….thats only about $3800.00 a week now isn’t? I would really like to know why you get suck a paycheck, since I’m the one paying you !
I see so many complain when taxes go up ! THESE are the reasons! Everyone that works for City or County and tax payers pay them should have their salary printed and available easily found so tax payers know exactly what they are getting for their charges!!
Just like you look at a receipt at the resturant or grocery store, Walmart….You need to know what you are paying for and what that total bill includes.
I do read and notice splash pad and many park improvements are truly not all tax dollars….Oh no, much of the funding comes from GENEROUS donations and a variety of different grants the city applies for..

  2. Don’t believe a word of it. As long as we don’t shake the boat they will be happy. How can we be on “a solid foundation?” I’m afraid this is to soon to print any comment like this.

  3. Wait a minute he has the City has to many employees he is going to hire internally???? Does anyone see why this guy didn’t last long at his last stop??!!!

  4. Why did Fisher and his cronies over hire city staff levels in the first place. Sounds to me that reduction should take place from the top down. City needs to go back to the single responsible city manager program. City does not need a bunch of finger pointer managers and directors with big salaries that over burden the tax payers. Redundant positions just means too many paychecks for people sitting on their butts. A lean workforce worked before I retired. Back then everyone worked as public servants that the citizens could trust. Not the new dictator city mentality of today that continues to over burden tax payers with new excessive regulations too. The new business sign regulations prohibits simple sign replacements on walls. Just one example. I hope the city council will finally see through all of the costly over populated useless city staff and new useless over regulated ordinances that have been created. Once the council sees through all of the over populated costly finger pointing promoters at city hall, then the city of Brenham can finally get back on track of being Brenham. Since we are not Bryan, Houston, Conroe, Katy. We are Brenham.

  5. Fisher is off the mark. Fire people as we do in Corporate America. Brenham will be in tough shape by the end of ‘21 as sad to say.

  6. Hopefully they will budget for the mosquito spray truck to actually show up once and while. People are supposed to stay home as much as possible but can’t enjoy outdoors without getting eaten up with bites. Need to prioritize.

    1. You can also install your own mosquito control system at your home that’s way more effective than anything the City could provide.

    2. You know, they do sell stuff at local stores that will also help with mosquitoes. You can take steps to help your situation instead of relying solely on the city to spray. There are bigger fish to fry…
