TxDOT PUBLIC HEARING ON HIGHWAY 290 IMPROVEMENTS IN WASHINGTON, WALLER COUNTIES BEGINS TUESDAY

VIRTUAL MEETING OPEN JULY 21-AUGUST 5

Residents looking to offer their input on proposed improvements to Highway 290 in Washington and Waller Counties can do so starting today (Tuesday).

TxDOT is opening a virtual meeting this afternoon for the public to provide feedback on the project, which proposes to widen a ten-mile stretch of Highway 290 from FM 1371 near Chappell Hill to Highway 6 near Hempstead.

The meeting opens at 5:30 p.m., and will close at midnight on Wednesday, August 5th.  It will consist of a pre-recorded video presentation from the project team, project exhibits and other information.  It will allow an opportunity to comment, but comments must be received on or before August 5th to be included in the official meeting record.

The proposed improvements include widening the highway from four lanes to six, while adding shoulders that will be 12 feet wide both on the inside and outside.

The project would take place within the existing right-of-way on Highway 290.  An additional 17.49 acres of right-of-way would be needed for proposed detention ponds.  No displacements are expected.

To log onto the virtual meeting, visit www.txdot.gov and keyword search US 290.  Those without internet access can call 713-802-5358 to ask questions about the project and access project materials at any time during the project development process.
