WASHINGTON CO. ADDS TEN RECOVERIES OVER WEEKEND; COUNTY REPORTING 112 ACTIVE CASES

State COVID-19 data shows that Washington County reported several new case recoveries over the weekend.

As of Sunday, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), the county had 441 positive cases, 112 active cases, 295 recoveries, and 34 deaths.

The state’s numbers from Friday showed county numbers at 438 positives, 116 active cases, 285 recoveries, and 34 deaths.

Friday, the Washington County Joint Information Center (JIC) and Office of Emergency Management (OEM) announced they will no longer be reporting county dashboards of case count, active case count, hospitalizations, recoveries, and deaths.  The offices said this change was made for several reasons, but primarily due to the DSHS Public Health Region 7 Office’s inability to timely report accurate numbers to the county.

State recovery data calculates recoveries by estimating that roughly 20 percent of total living cases required hospitalization and that around 80 percent of those cases did not.  The state then estimates the recovery time for hospitalized patients at around 32 days, and recovery time for non-hospitalized patients at roughly 14 days.  The county’s last update showed that no residents were currently hospitalized with the virus.
