CITY TO RECONSTRUCT SEVERAL DOWNTOWN STREETS IN AUGUST
Starting in August, the City of Brenham Street Department will be reconstructing four roadways in the downtown area.
The streets in question are North Park Street, North Baylor Street, Vulcan Street, and North Douglas Street. Reconstruction is scheduled to begin on August 3rd and will last for approximately six to eight weeks. This reconstruction, which follows last year’s downtown waterline replacement project, will be done in phases throughout this time period.
The proposed construction schedule for tilling up the current roadway, cement stabilization, and adding new asphalt will have crews working on North Park and North Douglas Streets—from Vulcan Street to Main Street—August 3rd through the 14th. During that time, they will also be working on Vulcan Street from Market Street to Austin Street.
From August 17th through September 11th, crews will work on North Park Street from North Austin Parkway to Vulcan Street, and North Baylor Street from Academy Street to Main Street. All schedules are subject to weather.
During the time of construction and during the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., these sections of roadway will be limited to vehicular traffic throughout the work zones. City staff will work with residents and businesses to gain access to homes and places of work throughout this process.
The city cautions that there will be dusty conditions at times, especially as cement is added to the roadway. Citizens are asked to park their cars in parking lots, driveways, or off the roadways between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and to not park in the spaces along the roads being rebuilt. If citizens have sprinkler systems, they are asked to either turn them off or make sure that the water does not enter the roadway.
