BRENHAM CANCELS 2020 MAIFEST
TRADITIONAL CELEBRATION HAD BEEN RESCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER
The 2020 celebration of Brenham Maifest has officially been cancelled.
Maifest Association President Catherine Kenjura made the announcement in a press release Tuesday morning.
The Maifest had been rescheduled for October 3rd after it had been post-poned from its traditional May observance.
According to Kenjura, “This year has provided unprecedented obstacles that we have never experienced before, and every decision has been guided by the health and safety of the participants and volunteers.”
Kenjura went on to say the gathering of so many children and families during practices, coronations and the parade would not be “the safest option for them and the volunteers.”
Kenjura say they look forward to returning to the traditional celebration in the future.
MAIFEST ANNOUNCEMENT:
After much consideration, the Board of Directors of the Brenham Maifest Association unanimously voted to cancel the Maifest scheduled for October 3rd.
This year has provided unprecedented obstacles that we have never experienced before, and every decision has been guided by the health and safety of the participants and volunteers.
After garnering feedback and careful deliberation, Maifest has decided that gathering children, along with their families, for multiple practices, a Maifest coronation and parade is not the safest option for them or our volunteers.
This was not an easy decision, as Maifest has not been canceled since World War II. We are still exploring creative ways to honor this 130-year old tradition that celebrates the youth of our community.
The support from the community has been incredibly humbling. Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to again celebrating together in the future!
