AUSTIN CO. FAIR CANCELS NON-YOUTH/NON-LIVESTOCK EVENTS
The Austin County Fair has announced the cancellation of events not related to the youth or the livestock of the fair.
In a press release this (Wednesday) afternoon from Fair President Robert Winkelmann, the Austin County Fair Board of Directors said the decision to cancel was reached after months of discussion and planning, and was made in part to “preserve the financial viability of the Austin County Fair Association” to hold future fairs.
This is the first cancellation of the fair, which was scheduled this year for October 2-11, since World War II.
The Fair Association said it will honor its mission to “provide the encouragement of agriculture, home economics and horticulture” by holding a livestock show and youth auction sale, as well as the queens, floral design, agricultural mechanics, bucket calf, hay judging, livestock judging, tractor tech, and champion drive contests.
Tickets purchased for this year’s fair will be honored at next year’s event, or they can be returned for a full refund at a designated time and date to be announced in the future.
Further information on the fair can be seen online at www.austincountyfair.com, or at the Austin County Fair Association Facebook page.
