WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO CONSIDER SPEED REDUCTION ON SECTION OF N MEYERSVILLE ROAD
County roads in Precinct One will the topic of discussion for the second week in a row when Washington County Commissioners meet Tuesday.
After approving an order to install no-thru-truck signs on several Precinct One roads at their last meeting, commissioners will hold a public hearing to discuss reducing the speed limit on a section of North Meyersville Road between Highway 105 and Wiesepape Road. Following the hearing, commissioners will consider approval of a speed limit of 35 mph.
County Engineer Ross McCall said his office has received a petition indicating public support of posting a speed limit. He recommends a speed of 35 mph as the “maximum reasonable and prudent speed” for the road when considering its land use, functional classification, and road geometry.
Also in session Tuesday, the court will hear an update from Washington County Fair Manager Dean Fuchs on the plans for the upcoming fair, scheduled for September 11-19.
Commissioners will also consider approving a policy for Washington County Law Enforcement and Corrections relating to additional pay for peace officer certification. According to the agenda packet, the purpose of the Washington County Proficiency Certificate and Incentive Pay (PCIP) program is to set incentives for current and incoming law enforcement and corrections officers. The program intends to improve retention rates and incentivize employees to achieve additional proficiencies that will enhance the workforce.
Also in court, commissioners will consider:
- A resolution authorizing the selection of a professional service provider for the Community Development Block Grant Mitigation (CDBG-MIT) program administered through the Texas General Land Office (GLO).
- Accepting and opening sealed bids for Request for Proposals (RFP) for commissary and banking software for the Washington County Jail.
- The purchase of a new website from Saffire for the Washington County Fairgrounds.
- The approval of AeroClave room decontamination systems.
- The approval of two-year appointment of election judges, alternate judges, and tabulators for general and special elections.

Commissioners will meet Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. at the Washington County Courthouse Annex.
