BURTON SCHOOL BOARD TO CONSIDER ADOPTION OF BUDGET, TAX RATE

The Burton School Board will meet virtually Thursday to hold discussion and consider possible action on the budget and tax rate for the new school year.

Members of the Burton School Board hold an in-person meeting in March. Thursday's meeting will be held virtually.

Following a public hearing, trustees will consider adoption of the 2020-21 budget, along with a proposed tax rate of $1.0413 per $100 valuation.  The rate, which is slightly less than last year’s rate of $1.0449 per $100, is made up of 96.64 cents for maintenance and operations (M&O) and 7.49 cents for debt service (I&S).

Also at Thursday’s meeting, the board will consider a resolution approving an engagement agreement for bond counsel legal services with Locke Lord LLP.  It will also look at an engagement agreement for financial advisor services with Live Oak Public Finance, LLP.

The board will also consider an order authorizing issuance of the district’s series 2020 unlimited tax refunding bonds, levying a continuing direct annual ad valorem tax for payment of the bonds, and delegating authority to certain trustees and district staff to execute documents relating to the sale of the bonds.

In addition, the board will consider amendments to the 2019-20 budget and approval of the Washington County Appraisal District’s 2020-21 budget.  It will also discuss the district’s Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program plan, along with district safety and security.

The board will meet Thursday afternoon at 6 p.m.  The public can access the meeting using the log-in or call-in information below.
