WASHINGTON CO. OPEN COLLECTION DAYS, SCRAP TIRE COLLECTION SET FOR OCTOBER

Washington County has rescheduled its open collection event for county residents, and announced a free scrap tire collection event.

The open collection days, previously scheduled for April 2-4, are now set for October 1-3 for residents of the county and City of Burton.  Brenham’s open collection event took place March 5-7.  The tire collection event, open to all residents, will take place October 10-24.

The BVR Collection Station, at 2009 Old Chappell Hill Road in Brenham, will offer free disposal of non-hazardous waste and take up to eight passenger tires 20 inches and smaller per household.  Both events are only for non-commercial customers, who will need to show proof of residence and ID upon arrival.

For the waste collection event, the first 500 pounds of debris per household can be dumped at no charge; anything above that will be charged at the full rate.  The collection station charges $90 per ton of non-compactible debris, and $22.50 per ton of brush and yard waste.

Appliances with coolant will be assessed a $20 removal fee prior to drop-off.  Tires will be taken at the normal gate rate.  Household computers will be accepted, but large quantities of computers will be rejected.  Propane tanks and loads with dirt cement, and/or bricks will also be turned away.  Mulch will be available for residents to pick up after dropping off their trash.

For the tire collection event, the station asks residents looking to drop off more than eight tires or tires that are bigger than 20 inches to schedule with an attendant to bring in the tires at the end of the event, if space is available.  Residents are asked to not bring rims, and off-road tires or pieces of tires will not be accepted.

The tire collection event is sponsored by Washington County and the City of Brenham in partnership with Brazos Valley Waste and Recycling and Keep Washington County Beautiful.
