GRACE FELLOWSHIP FOUNDER, SENIOR PASTOR GEORGE NELSON, JR. DIES

  

The founder and senior pastor of Grace Fellowship Baptist Church in Brenham has died.

Pastor George Nelson, Jr. died Thursday night at CHI St. Joseph in Brenham.  He was 63 years old.

A preacher for nearly 30 years, Nelson founded Grace Fellowship in the spring of 1996.  He also established numerous active ministries that work within the church and community.

Nelson is credited as the visionary behind the Fellowship of Faith Ministries, Inc., Grace Angel Academy and Daycare, Kingdom Builders Fellowship of Brazos Valley, Jobs Partnership of Washington County, and George Nelson Jr. Ministries, Inc.

Nelson was an Overseer of the Kingdom Builders Global Fellowship, and presided over the Kingdom Builders Fellowship of Brazos Valley.  He also served on the credentials committee of the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention (SBTC) for four years, while also being co-founder and elected first president of the African American Fellowship of the SBTC.

Nelson served on various boards including the Boys and Girls Club of Washington County, Children Protective Service of Washington County Jobs Partnership of Washington County, Brazos Valley Economic Development Council, and Brenham Downtown Beautification Committee.  He also hosted a church program on KWHI for several years.

Services are pending at Eternal Rest Funeral Home in Houston.
