LIFETIME LEARNING READ RECEPTION CANCELLED

  

The reception for the 2020 Washington County READ, set for Oct. 13, has been cancelled.

Officials with Lifetime Learning say readers can still enjoy this year’s selection, Getting Life by Michael Morton.

The Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library reports Getting Life has been a very popular book for summer reading, especially during the coronavirus pandemic.

According to Lifetime Learning's website, Morton’s book chronicles his work to free himself from a life sentence for the murder of his wife.

Eventually, Morton was exonerated in 2011after serving 25 years in Texas prisons.

Morton earned an undergraduate degree in Psychology and a Masters in Literature while incarcerated.  The journals he kept became the basis of his memoir Getting Life, which he published in 2014.
