WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO CONSIDER SPEED REDUCTION FOR PORTION OF NICHOLSON LAKE ROAD
Washington County Commissioners will consider a speed reduction for a stretch of a Precinct Two road at their meeting Tuesday.
Following a public hearing, the court will consider reducing the speed limit of Nicholson Lake Road in Chappell Hill from Highway 290 to Chadwick Hogan Road. If approved, the speed limit would be reduced from the unposted 60 mph standard to 35 mph.
County Engineer Ross McCall said his office has received a petition indicating public support for posting a speed limit, and recommends 35 mph as the “maximum reasonable and prudent speed” for the section of road.
Also in court Tuesday, commissioners will hear an update from Telebehavioral Care Director Carly McCord on the county’s Telebehavioral Care programs.
Commissioners will also consider action on the presidential memorandum regarding the deferral of payroll tax obligations in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. The deferral would allow employees whose regular pre-tax wages in a bi-weekly pay period fall below $4,000 to receive funds usually taken out by taxes from September 1st through December 31st. County officials are recommending commissioners defer participation in the memorandum until they receive more specific and clear guidance from the appropriate authoritative bodies.
After the end of the regular meeting, commissioners will meet in executive session to discuss economic development negotiations with Brenham Economic Development Director Susan Cates. Any action from executive session will be taken in open session.
Commissioners will also:
- Present a resolution to Emergency Management Coordinator Bryan Ruemke for his help during the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Consider approval of the 2021 Sheriff’s and Constable’s fees for Washington County.
Commissioners will meet Tuesday morning at 9 a.m., at the Washington County Courthouse Annex.
