BLINN COLLEGE NOT PLANNING TO PUBLICLY REPORT COVID-19 CASE INFORMATION

Officials at Blinn College say they do not plan to publicly report information on COVID-19 cases at campuses.

While several universities have set up dashboards to report data on confirmed cases, and school districts are now required to file weekly reports with the state on new cases, the College will not report those numbers.

According to Blinn Communications Director Richard Bray, that is because when students or employees test positive, those numbers are reported directly to their local health district by the medical provider who conducted the testing, not by Blinn, as the College does not perform the actual testing.

The College uses a self-certification process through the Campus Clear website or app, which requires students, employees, and visitors to indicate daily whether they are symptom-free, experiencing symptoms, or have tested positive for COVID-19.  Should they indicate they have tested positive, have symptoms, or have been exposed to someone who has, they are not cleared to come to campus and are given next steps.

Officials with the Washington County Joint Information Center (JIC) say while Brenham and Burton ISDs and Blinn College are not required to report case numbers to the county, JIC and county officials are monitoring them for cases.  The JIC says case numbers and reporting will continue to be represented in the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) website data.
