The Brenham ISD Education Foundation presented a check to the school district in the amount of $77,755 at Monday’s meeting of the Brenham School Board.

What would normally be used for the Foundation’s annual Mini-Grant Program underwent a change this year due to the circumstances of the 2020 school year.  Following a unanimous vote from Foundation board members and approval from district administrators, the funding will not be used to fund individual mini-grants, instead going toward additional virtual learning equipment.

Education Foundation Secretary Kim Weatherby said the Foundation recognized that the need for additional virtual learning support was “imperative”, and agreed it was in the best interest of the students of the district to make this change.

The Foundation thanked the employees of Brenham ISD, the Foundation’s corporate and local sponsors, and the community for its support of the annual Arts and Appetizers fundraiser.

The donation was promptly put to use at Monday’s board meeting, helping purchase 265 new Chromebooks and 12 charging carts from SHI Government Solutions, totaling $79,281.  Additional district funding was used to cover the remaining cost not covered by the donation.

Information Technology Director Kim Strauss said this purchase completes the district’s device goal, presented to trustees during the spring.  Strauss said the goal was to ensure all classrooms Pre-K through sixth grade, along with certain classrooms in grades seven through 12, had Chromebooks available.
