TEA, DSHS RELEASE SCHOOL DISTRICT COVID-19 DASHBOARD

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) and Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) have released the first breakdown of COVID-19 cases in school districts.

The two agencies on Thursday released a dashboard to track COVID-19 cases at public schools, which are required to report positive cases on school campuses.  The data will be updated each Wednesday.  All public schools in Texas are featured in the report, but private schools are not included.

Of approximately 1.1 million students on campus in Texas during the first week of school, 3,445 students have reported as COVID-19 positive.  Of over 800,000 staff members, according to the staff count from the 2019-20 academic year, 2,850 have tested positive.  Based on Local Education Agency reports, the first day of school ranged from July 27th to September 16th.

While no COVID-19 data for Brenham ISD is shown on the dashboard, the district did confirm its first positive case this week in a Brenham High School student.  Burton ISD has not reported any positive cases at this time.

The dashboard displays how many students were enrolled in the district during the first week of school.  It shows case reports from students and staff during the current week, as well as cumulative case reports for students and staff.  It also indicates whether the person was infected on or off campus, if that information is known.
