CUBS FALL TO MAGNOLIA ON THE ROAD, 35-10

 

The Brenham Cubs slipped to 0-2 on the season as they fell to the Magnolia Bulldogs, on the road, 35-10.

The Cubs jumped out to an early 7-0 lead as Stephen Stackhouse hit Javon Dixon with a 19-yard touchdown pass on the team’s opening drive.

But the Bulldogs (1-1) countered with a five-minute 78-yard drive that culminated with a 3-yard touchdown run by Mitch Hall to knot the score.

A Brandt Bender 22-yard field goal gave the Cubs a 10-7 lead.  But Magnolia came right back with a 55-yard touchdown pass from Travis Moore to Ben Coligan.

The Bulldogs added to their lead with a 25-yard pass from Moore to Mac Postel Jr., right before the half.

In the second half the Magnolia defense shut down the Cubs, limiting them to just over 60 yards offense and only three first downs, as the Bulldogs pulled away.

Stackhouse finished 16-of-24, for 193 yards and one touchdown and an interception.  Javon Dixon caught four passes for 76 yards, while Adan Villatoro caught two passes for 45 yards and Cameron Richardson also caught five passes for 41 yards.  Dixon led the Cubs in rushing with 46 yards on 13 carries.

The Cubs will open district on the road next Friday at Leander Glenn.  Kickoff is set for 7:00 with the pre-game at 6:30 on AM 1280 KWHI, FM 101.7 and www.kwhi.com.
