FORMER SOMERVILLE COACH KILLED IN ACCIDENT NORTH OF BRENHAM
A former Somerville teacher and coach was killed Monday evening in a collision with an 18-wheeler on Highway 36 North between Brenham and Somerville.
DPS reports that just after 5 p.m., a Chevy Equinox driven by 51-year-old Michael David Myers was driving northbound behind a 2019 Volvo pulling a trailer about six miles north of Brenham.
As the Volvo prepared to make a right turn, the Chevy crashed into the back of the trailer.
Myers was pronounced dead at the scene. According to DPS, Myers was a teacher in Caldwell, but authorities did not say what school he taught at.
According to Somerville ISD officials, Myers worked in the district as a teacher and coach from August of 2005 through May of 2017.
The driver of the Volvo, 55-year-old Philip Harless from Quinlan, east of Dallas, was uninjured.
