BURTON HIGH SCHOOL HOMECOMING POSTPONED AFTER STUDENT TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID-19
Burton High School is postponing its homecoming celebration after Burton ISD confirmed its first case of COVID-19.
According to Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy, the case was reported in a Burton High School student who was last on campus Tuesday, October 6th. Contact tracing found that the student had close contact with five other students and one staff member.
Each of the students and the staff member were sent home in accordance with guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The students, along with the staff member, are expected to return to campus for in-person instruction on October 21st.
Dr. Kennedy said the district immediately addressed additional cleaning and sanitizing in all areas of potential exposure in the evening, over the weekend, and again Monday with no students present on campus. She said staff have done “an amazing job of following district implemented guidelines per TEA (Texas Education Agency), the CDC, and local health officials.” She said the district continues to prioritize the health and safety of all students and staff.
Dr. Kennedy said no further information can be released at this time, due to confidentiality requirements.
