BURTON FFA WINS NILE VIRTUAL LIVESTOCK JUDGING CONTEST

  

The Burton FFA livestock judging team took first place at a recent virtual livestock judging competition.

The team competed Thursday, October 8th at the Northern International Livestock Exposition’s (NILE) Virtual Livestock Judging Contest.

Chet Fritsch was the high individual, Weston Hinze was second high individual, Waylon Hinze was third high individual, and Tanna Thiel was fourth high individual en route to Burton FFA placing first as a team.

Fritsch finished first in goats, second in reasons, and fifth in beef and hogs.  Weston Hinze placed first in hogs, second in goats, and third in reasons.  Waylon Hinze was third in goats, fourth in reasons, and sixth in hogs.  Thiel tied for third in goats, finished fifth in reasons, and tied for sixth in hogs.

Burton FFA was one of 35 senior FFA division teams—and the only one from Texas—in the contest, which also featured teams from Arkansas, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, and Washington.

This was the first time the NILE livestock judging contest was held virtually.  Students judged two market steer classes, one breeding heifer class, one market goat, one market barrow class, one breeding gilt class, one market lamb class, and gave three sets of reasons.
