NAVASOTA ISD TO DISCONTINUE REMOTE LEARNING
The Navasota School Board has approved a recommendation to discontinue remote learning.
Beginning next Tuesday, students will be required to return to on-campus instruction.
Superintendent Stu Musick says Tuesday was selected because it begins the second nine-week grading period for the district.
Principals from each campus spoke at Monday’s meeting of the school board and addressed remote learning concerns.
Navasota High School Principal Kristi Ramsey told the board, currently over 100 remote learning High School students are failing four or more classes, which she called ‘devastating’.
Webb Elementary Principal Emily Nichols said 40% of her students are reading below their grade level, which also affects their learning in other subjects.
While the board said this was an extremely difficult decision, they feel their safety measures will keep the COVID-19 numbers low and it’s time to discontinue remote learning and begin to educate the students on campus again.
