PROPERTY TAX BILLS FOR WASHINGTON CO. HOMEOWNERS GOING OUT THIS WEEK
MOST PROPERTY OWNERS SHOULD SEE INCREASE IN AMOUNT PAID
Property owners in Washington County are getting their tax bills in the mail this week, and most homeowners should expect an increase in what they pay.
Washington County Chief Appraiser Willy Dilworth said most homeowners should receive their bills by today (Wednesday) if they have not already received them. While most local entities have adopted either the same or lower tax rates than last year, most property owners will pay more due to increased property valuations.
The average homestead in the county was valued at $202,580 this year, up from last year’s average valuation of $199,906. This will lead to an estimated increase of $13.20 in taxes on the average homestead this year, based on a tax rate of $0.495 per $100 valuation.
Dilworth said to keep in mind new houses added to the tax roll this year, with $52,866,740 of the $121,891,300 in new values for the county being residential. He said without new residential construction, the average home value this year would have fallen 1.8 percent from 2019, leading to a drop of $16.51 in taxes.
The average homestead in Brenham rose in value to $178,008 from $175,797 last year. Keeping in mind a tax rate of $0.504 per $100, taxes on the average home will decrease by $7.
Burton’s average home valued at $161,276 this year, up from last year’s average value of $159,964. With a tax rate of $0.50 per $100, the average home will pay $6.56 more than last year.
Brenham ISD’s average homestead increased from $202,191 last year to $204,941 this year. Based on a tax rate of $1.0458 per $100, taxes will increase by roughly $20 for the average home.
Homes in Burton ISD increased in average value to $188,077 from $185,278 last year. Using a tax rate of $1.0413 per $100, the average home will pay around $23 more in taxes.
The average homestead in the Blinn College District increased in value to $202,580, compared to last year’s average of $199,906. The College’s tax rate of $0.056 per $100 will lead to an increase of $1.50 in taxes for the average home.
Dilworth said the deadline to pay property taxes without being delinquent is January 31st.
