KRAUSE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENT TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID-19; THREE ACTIVE CASES WITHIN BRENHAM ISD
A student at Krause Elementary School has tested positive for COVID-19, Brenham ISD’s third active case and ninth total.
Brenham ISD COVID-19 Response Leader Jamie Woodall said the student was last on campus October 16th, but the district was made aware of the case Thursday afternoon, shortly after the family of the student received word of the positive test.
Through case investigation, the district found the student did not have close contact with anyone else on campus, so no one other than the affected student will be required to quarantine. The district is unsure of where the student may have contracted the virus.
Woodall said it remains important for students and staff members to stay diligent in their efforts to mitigate the risk of spreading COVID-19, because there are schools and programs that are having to shut down because of close contact with positive cases. She pointed to the postponement of tonight’s (Friday) volleyball game between Brenham and Waller, due to the Waller volleyball program going into quarantine, as an example.
Anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 cannot return to school until ten days after symptoms have begun and 24 hours after fever and symptoms have resolved. Anyone found to have close contact with someone who tested positive will be notified by phone, and will be required to remain off campus for 14 days.
Woodall still feels very confident in the district’s coronavirus prevention protocols, which she said have helped lead to a lack of close contacts when the district does have positive cases. She said the district’s diligence in its procedures is “keeping us open.”
Of the district’s nine confirmed cases of COVID-19, the first of which was reported September 22nd in a Brenham High School student, six students and three staff members have tested positive.
