KRUSE VILLAGE REPORTING NEW CASES OF COVID-19

Kruse Village in Brenham is reporting new cases of COVID-19, after the senior living community was previously cleared of COVID-19 cases.

Kruse Village Executive Director Coy Fontenot said in a release Thursday that despite the facility’s infection prevention efforts, there are currently eight residents and two staff members that have tested positive for the virus.

A total of 38 residents and 24 staff members have tested positive since the first case at the facility was confirmed on June 4th, while eight residents have died.

The facility reported in September that the last of its COVID-19 positive patients had recovered.

Fontenot said Kruse Village remains committed to doing everything possible to stop the spread of this virus.  He said the facility is working under the direction of its medical director and providers, is in close communication with the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and is following all guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

Fontenot said the facility continues to follow all infection prevention protocols, including using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE); actively screening and monitoring residents, staff and visitors for COVID-19 symptoms; assuring safe congregate dining and group activities; taking enhanced environmental safety precautions; and restricting visitors as appropriate.  Facility personnel maintain contact with residents, families and staff regarding any new or suspected cases and operational changes by phone, email, or letter.

Fontenot said throughout the pandemic, Kruse Village team members “have gone above and beyond to protect the health and wellness of everyone at Kruse Village.”  He said the compassion they have shown residents and support for their peers is “commendable.”
