KOLKHORST, McCAUL KEEP STATE SENATE, U.S. REP SEATS

Washington County’s State Senator and U.S. Representative each won re-election to their respective seats Tuesday night.
Republican Lois Kolkhorst will maintain her position as State Senator of District 18 after defeating Democrat challenger Michael Antalan. Kolkhorst tallied 273,994 total votes, about 66.1 percent, compared to Antalan’s 140,433 votes, or 33.89 percent.
Kolkhorst, who was first elected to the senate seat in 2014 after seven terms in the Texas House, said she is thrilled with the turnout in this election, and is ready to get back to work once the state legislature meets in January.
KWHI was unable to reach Antalan for comment.
Meanwhile, Republican incumbent Michael McCaul won re-election to a ninth term as U.S. Representative of District 10, defeating Democrat Mike Siegel for the second time in two years. McCaul received 213,875 votes, about 52.47 percent, compared to Siegel’s 185,064 votes, 45.38 percent of the vote. Libertarian candidate Roy Eriksen received 8,798 votes, about 2.16 percent.

In a written statement, McCaul, first elected in 2005, said he is “deeply honored” by the confidence voters have placed in him to serve them in Congress. He said, “The people of this district, from Austin to Brenham to the Houston suburbs, know that I will do right by them and make sure their voices are heard.”

Siegel, also in a written statement, said that regardless of Tuesday night’s results, this race “showed that deep in the heart of Texas a progressive movement is rising.” He said that while this campaign may be over, he looks forward to continuing to work towards “a better Texas and a better world.”
In Washington County, Kolkhorst obtained 13,757 votes to Antalan’s 3,376 in the state senate race. For the U.S. Congress race, McCaul received 13,163 votes, while Siegel received 3,823 and Eriksen received 230.
