BURTON ISD: NINE STUDENTS, TWO STAFF MEMBERS TEST POSITIVE FOR COVID-19
OVER 25 PERCENT OF STUDENTS, 15 PERCENT OF STAFF IMPACTED BY CONFIRMED CASES
A large portion of Burton ISD’s students and faculty were impacted by the recent positive COVID-19 cases reported in the district.
A statement released this (Friday) morning by Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy says that through the district’s contact tracing protocol, which has taken most of the week to complete, nine students and two staff members have tested positive for COVID-19.
The statement also says a “significant number of students and staff” have been in close contact with someone who has either tested positive or is experiencing symptoms. According to the district, 26 percent of its student body and 15 percent of its staff have been impacted by this current round of the coronavirus.
Dr. Kennedy did not indicate which campuses the affected students and staff members belonged to.
The district said these indicators required a quarantine situation, and that communication continues to go out to students and their families.
The district shifted to remote instruction for all students on Wednesday. Students will not return to campus until Monday, November 30th.
Dr. Kennedy said the district hopes that through rigorous cleaning and sanitizing, additional time for facilities to sit dormant, and other health and safety procedures being implemented, it will be prepared to return to in-person instruction on the 30th.
Full statement from Burton ISD below:
Our apologies go out to our school community for the sudden change to remote instruction. Please understand that we did not make this decision hastily. However, we felt it was the most appropriate and in the best interest to address the health and welfare of our students, staff, and families.
Through our contact tracing protocol which has taken most of the week to complete, there have been 9 students and 2 staff who have tested positive for COVID-19. Additionally, a significant number of students and staff have been determined to have been in close contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19 or are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms. These indicators require a quarantine situation and communication continues to go out to those students and their families as 26% of our student body and 15% of our staff have been impacted by this current round of COVID-19.
As the virus continues to impact communities, it is our hopes that through rigorous cleaning and sanitizing, additional time for our facilities to sit dormant, and other health and safety procedures being implemented we will be prepared to return to the district on Monday, November 30th. Your patience, understanding, and support is very much appreciated. Prayers to stay healthy and well!
