WASHINGTON CO. EMS NAMES NEW AVIATION DIVISION CHIEF

Washington County EMS has named a new official to help oversee the department’s multi-mission helicopter program.
Lynn Burttschell was introduced today (Tuesday) as the department’s new Aviation Division Chief. Burttschell will work alongside his Ground Division Chief counterpart and EMS Director Kevin Deramus to further develop the helicopter program.
Deramus, speaking at today’s Washington County Commissioners Court meeting, said the department chose Burttschell after a nationwide search that spanned a little over two months. He said Burttschell’s experience should prove invaluable for the position.
Burttschell started his public safety career volunteering in emergency services while attending Sam Houston State University in 1987. Originally from Lee County, he began his EMS career with Washington County. He said he is humbled to be back where it all began for him.
Previous Aviation Division Chief Casey Ping left the position about three months ago to take a full-time consulting role with REACH Air Medical Services. According to Deramus, Ping still consults regularly with local EMS members.
