DPS TO END WAIVER FOR DL/ID EXPIRATIONS IN APRIL 2021
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has announced an end to the waiver on expiration dates for driver licenses (DLs) and identification cards (IDs).
The waiver, granted by Governor Greg Abbott in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, ends on April 14, 2021. The waiver on expirations applied to DLs, commercial DLs, commercial learner permits, ID cards and election identification certificates that expired on or after March 13, 2020.
Extended hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Friday will be offered at certain DL offices beginning January 4th. However, none of the participating offices are located in the Brazos Valley; the closest offices with extended hours are Austin, Houston, Pflugerville, and Spring.
Appointments are required for all in-person services, but some services are available over the phone or online. More information is available online at www.dps.texas.gov.
