SEALY CITY MANAGER ANNOUNCES RESIGNATION–IS THEN FIRED BY CITY COUNCIL
The City of Sealy is searching for a new city manager.

At a special meeting earlier this week, City Manager Lloyd Merrell tendered his resignation. The council then voted to fire him.
The meeting had been called for a performance review of Merrell, who had been under fire from the council recently regarding low fund balance reserves. Merrell had stated he was resigning at the end of his contract on February first.
Prior to the executive session, Merrell complained about slanderous statements made in the community about he and his wife.
After going into an executive session Monday, the council emerged and voted to accept his resignation and immediately place him on paid administrative leave until his time was up.
The council then instructed Merrell be escorted to his office by police to supervise him cleaning out his office that night.
The council has not mentioned any timetable for the hiring of a successor.
