46-year-old Christopher Eugene Luttrell of Caldwell was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred around 9:30 a.m. at Highway 21 and FM 50 near the Brazos River.

DPS Sergeant Erik Burse reports that Luttrell was driving east on Highway 21 in a 2020 Kia Sorento when his right rear tire had a blowout.  According to Burse, Luttrell overcorrected and crossed over into the westbound lane, colliding with a FedEx truck.

The driver of the truck, 23-year-old Rene Garcia of Bryan, was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bryan in serious condition.

Luttrell at one time was in charge of crime prevention on Blinn’s Brenham Campus.  In 2018, he was named the Professional of the Year by the Sexual Assault Resource Center (SARC) of the Brazos Valley for developing a sexual assault prevention program for all student activities across the college district.

DPS says this is an ongoing investigation, and no further information will be released at this time.
