46-year-old Christopher Eugene Luttrell of Caldwell was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred around 9:30 a.m. at Highway 21 and FM 50 near the Brazos River.
DPS Sergeant Erik Burse reports that Luttrell was driving east on Highway 21 in a 2020 Kia Sorento when his right rear tire had a blowout. According to Burse, Luttrell overcorrected and crossed over into the westbound lane, colliding with a FedEx truck.
The driver of the truck, 23-year-old Rene Garcia of Bryan, was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bryan in serious condition.
Luttrell at one time was in charge of crime prevention on Blinn’s Brenham Campus. In 2018, he was named the Professional of the Year by the Sexual Assault Resource Center (SARC) of the Brazos Valley for developing a sexual assault prevention program for all student activities across the college district.
DPS says this is an ongoing investigation, and no further information will be released at this time.

Chris will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was smart, funny and so considerate of others. We loved to see Chris and Cora together, what a team! The Theatre Guild of Burleson County thanks him for his talent and time. Prayers for all who loved him.
My Prayers Goes To The Family of Chris Luttrell and The Family of Blinn College Police Department. Such a sudden tragedy that happened. May God Bring Comfort.
Luttrell was my favorite officer on campus when I was an RA. He was nothing short of a fantastic man. He was always so kind and fun and would sit and talk for hours if he got the chance. When I found out my heart broke.
Officer Luttrell helped my son when he got hurt once and he stayed with him until I got there. He checked on him afterwards. They became friends. He was a special man. My heart goes out to his loved ones and all that were close to him.
Very sad to hear this. I knew Him from Blinn and enjoyed His personality. Praying for His Family and Friends in this difficult time!
RIP cousin!

I will miss his humor. My condolences to his family, especially his children.
