BRENHAM NEXT TO ASSUME MINISTRIES OF FORMER MISSION BRENHAM

A newly formed non-profit organization will soon be taking over the ministries of the former Mission Brenham.

On January 1st, Brenham NEXT will assume the ministries of the Brenham Texas Leadership Academy (BTXLA) and summer JAM program currently run by the Champion Fellowship Church.

In 2017, Champion Fellowship, along with many community donors, raised funds to hold the JAM program that summer, following a financial crisis faced by Mission Brenham.  Since that time, the church has maintained both the JAM program and BTXLA, but, according to a press release from Brenham NEXT, the church believes it is time for both of the ministries to be returned to the community.

Currently, the ministries include the after school program, BTXLA—which is being renamed BLAST—and JAM, a summer program held in partnership with Brenham ISD.  The programs serve children in kindergarten through sixth grade.  BLAST will be relocated to the gym on the property owned by Redeemer Church in order to allow more children to be served in the spring.

According to the release, the mission of these programs is to equip and empower the youth of Brenham with knowledge and spiritual tools.  The programs include tutoring, Bible lessons, leadership development, exercise, field trips, home visits and scripture memory.

Current Program Director AJ Jerkins will be joining Brenham NEXT and continue to run the day to day programs.

Serving on the board for Brenham NEXT are Pastor Marcus Lawhon, LaKesha Morgan, Debbie Forland, Marianna Giblin, Pastor Darren Donaldson, Brenham Police Captain Lloyd Powell and Washington County District Attorney Julie Renken.  The board is currently seeking an executive director.
